This week has brought us our first parenting lesson. As small and insignificant as it may seem we were alarmed by the amount of spit up coming out of our little girl. She hadn't spit up since she was born and I guess we were expecting it to remain that way. At times it would shoot out of her nose which really scared me at 2 o'clock in the morning! She had also been extremely fussy and didn't seem able to get comfortable. On top of all this she was wanting to eat every hour and a half! So, taking mom's advice, I called the doctor and he asked that we come in to the office. I didn't know what to expect and we were both worried about acid reflux or something more serious. As it turns out...she had gained one pound since our doctor's appointment 8 days beforehand! Dr. Johnson called this growth (2 ozs a day!) "remarkable". He determined that the fussiness could be attributed to such a major growth spurt. As for the spit up, all babies do it and it is not concerning unless they are having major spit up every time they eat. So a doctor visit and $20 later we were relieved and had learned our first parenting lessons.
Lesson #1: If I gained 1/8 of my body weight in 8 days, I would be pretty fussy too!
Lesson #2: All babies spit up and as perfect as our little girl is...she will be NO different!!
PICTURES!
We had Lilly's newborn pictures taken last Friday. A girl I went to high school with took them and did an absolutely beautiful job! If you would like, check them out on her website.
